If you’ve been following the San Antonio music scene the last couple of years, you undoubtedly have seen Alyson Alonzo grace a mic with her soulful melodies or at least heard about the singer.
But what you might not know is that on top of releasing tracks and pursuing her career in music, the performer also works in pest control scaring birds … literally.
If you randomly happened to be watching the news in Austin earlier this week, you would’ve seen Alonzo talking about her work with Texas Bird Services as local news station KVUE did a story on how the city of Austin hired the pest control company to control the migration of grackle invading the downtown streets.

But Austin isn’t the only city annoyed with these pesky birbs poopin’ on everything and causing a racket. Alonzo, who was just up in Austin per her supervisor’s request, actually is the supervisor and team lead for Texas Bird Services here in the Alamo City.
“This job gives me the money to pay for the tools to be a singer,” Alonzo told the Current in response to an inquiry on the possible negative affects on her aspirations as a performer since she sometimes plays late at night. “I can pay my rent, and pay for music equipment,” said Alonzo. “If I do have a show during the week, they let me take off and I can have someone cover me, this job has been a blessing throughout the years.”
Even though Texas Bird Services use lasers to scare birds away, it would be pretty cool if Alonzo could just walk around downtown singing her songs and her warm crooning somehow just let the birds know it was time to go. Is that weird?
