Of all the things we could be obsessed with as Texans and San Antonio folk, I feel like our infatuation with Selena is merited and completely normal.
Like, sure we’re obsessed with the Spurs too ‘cause like “nombre, shut up man, nombre, go Spurs go,” but Selena represented more than just entertainment for us; she put South Texas, and our Tejano heritage, in the spotlight and rep-re-sen-ted with some fierce dance moves and tracks that could make your toughest tio cry. And, ya know, she just seemed like a super nice person and who doesn't like that?
Yeah, Selena’s the best, and it’s not exactly a surprise that she’ll be honored tonight with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and that the city of Los Angeles is marking Nov. 3rd as “Selena Day.”
Yass Kween, Selena Day is real y'all. Selena's sister Suzette Quintanilla, who will be accepting the star on her behalf, posted photos through the Selena fan page on Facebook to give a behind-the-scenes look at the star:
Eva Longoria Bastón, who also grew up in Quintanilla’s hometown of Corpus Christi, is also scheduled to receive her own star this year. But, she'll also emcee Selena's star ceremony since the Tejana queen was a such a role model for her.
You can watch the ceremony here at 8:30 pm local time.
