Amazon Prime Now is available in San Antonio.
Amazon Prime's fast delivery is now getting faster with Amazon Prime Now, which offers to deliver your items within the same hour. The service currently operates in certain zip codes in San Antonio and can only be accessed through the iOS and Android app.
The delivery service operates seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with free two-hour delivery and one-hour delivery for $7.99. That's on top of a minimum purchase of $20. The Prime Now service is only available to Prime members which is $99 a year.
While this may seem amazing it does question just how Amazon does this. The distribution center in Shertz hired hundreds of employees this summer, and
plans to bring on more seasonal workers to fulfill holiday season demand.
But with articles from the
New York Times about white-collar working conditions at Amazon, as well as reports from other media outlets such as
Gawker on the deplorable working conditions for Amazon warehouse employees, it does question weather our need to get those items within the same hour is actually worth it. Take a look at this 2012
Mother Jones report titled,
"I was a warehouse wage slave: My brief, backbreaking, rage-inducing, low-paying, dildo-packing time inside the online-shipping machine. "
Amazon Now seems like an
H-E-B Instacart service that is now available in the Austin and Houston areas, but not in San Antonio at this time.
