Local literary nonprofit Gemini Ink inaugurates its Breakthrough Thinkers Series with a public reading, book signing, and Q&A with Caroline Kennedy, the only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy. As an author and editor, Kennedy has published several books, including In Our Defense: The Bill of Rights in Action (with Ellen Alderman), Profiles in Courage for Our Time, and The Best-Loved Poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Based on the power of sharing poetry (as well as a number of poems she received from friends on her 50th birthday), Kennedy’s new anthology She Walks in Beauty, A Woman’s Journey Through Poems touches on such universal themes as motherhood, marriage, friendship, aging, and grief. San Antonio is one of five cities on Kennedy’s launch tour for She Walks in Beauty (the title of which is taken from a poem written by Lord Byron in 1814), which includes local contributions from contemporary poets Naomi Shihab Nye, Sandra Cisneros, Barbara Ras, and Rosemary Catacalos. Free (tickets can be obtained from the Laurie Auditorium box office from 10am-4pm daily until they have all been distributed), 7pm, Laurie Auditorium, Trinity University, 715 Stadium Drive, (210) 999-8119, geminiink.org.
