Southtown’s fashion scene just gained another heavy hitter – Hispanic T-shirt designers and overall fighters for justice INKA have moved to 724 South Alamo, right above La Frite Bistro. The 1,500-square-foot loft, which is undergoing renovations, houses the INKA offices and warehouse. The official INKA shop will open in mid-November. “Literally, smack dab in the middle, between Blue Star and the River Walk, we felt it was the ideal spot to take our operations to the next level,” says INKA’s Erika Tarin.
But the folks who brought you slogans like “Mow Your Own Lawn” aren’t abandoning their ideals. INKA hopes to offer workshops and educational seminars in the new space. “The fight for justice and peace through education and cultural awareness lies at the heart of INKA,” says Tarin. INKA unveiled its latest line of shirts at the LULAC National Convention in Chicago. These new shirts are all printed on sweatshop-free material, a strategic move INKA is proud of. New designs include slogans such as, “People died for the rights you throw away,” and “Paz, Amor y Libertad.”
