Guess who’s talking at TEDx San Antonio?

TEDx San Antonio is just around the corner. On October 13, 2012 at Trinity University's Jane and Arthur Stieren Theatre, twenty-one bold, passionate speakers will be sharing their ideas--opening minds and creating discussion.

If you’ve been waiting to learn who the speakers are before filling out your TEDx San Antonio attendee application—wait no longer. The deadline is this Saturday, September 15, 2012.

All twenty-one speakers are listed below in alpha order--not presentation order--with a short description of their topics. I've been told the organizers this year have paid a great deal of attention to the length and flow of the program, to make the all-day event enjoyable.

Shari Albright--Creating global competencies in education

Erica Anthony--Demonstration of the stylistic versatility of the upright bass, including its usefulness in accompanying solo songwriters

Lyda Arevalo-Flechas--The language of Alzheimer's

Steve Baskin--Unplugging our kids

Darryl Byrd--SA2020

Anna Dragsbeck--Immunizations-the grave danger of skepticism in the face of medical miracles

Robert Harris--Beauty, place and the environmental imperative

Paul Johnson--the humble and might tree (he is also bringing trees for 'adoption')

Mark Larson--Revising the educational blueprint

Karl Klose--Rise of the superbug: antibiotic resistant bacteria (personal note...this is just some of the amazing biomedical research going on right here in San Antonio)

Monica Maeckle--Butterfly evangelist with an introduction to butterfly tagging

Mark Menijivar--Artist and photographer shares his project "The Luck Archive"

Dale Monnin--Drum circle--Our modern lifestyle and consequences for the future

Dan Norris--How to hear "Yes!" more often with the science of influence

Leticia Ozuna--Broadband for everyone-making the case for municipal digital infrastructure as a critical part of urban redevelopment

Linda Perez--Life is short, live it well (personal note...YES)

Gage Paine--The value of silence (and the practice of listening)

Branco Ponomariov--Rethinking nuclear energy for sustainable economic development

Col. Todd Rassmussen--Transformation and translation of military trauma care (personal note... again, going on right here in our City)

Cassandra Santori--The grassroots guide to worm composting and local food (Yum!)

Ray Seggern--Dives deep into the ideas of "mind over matter" and "perception is reality"

These short descriptions are but a tease and don't give credit to the depth and power of the live talk. So, you must come hear them. What I learned last year, was while you think you might not like a certain speaker, he or she may turn out to be your favorite.

Again, the deadline is this Saturday, September 15, 2012. Register at TEDxSanAntonio
