Open carry is now the law of the land — public land, that is.

Private property rights still matter, a point not lost on numerous businesses in the Lone Star State.

The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety (the antithesis of the National Rifle Association) is building a comprehensive list of businesses that will prohibit open carry.

“Although the gun lobby celebrated the passage of open carry this past summer, countless Texas businesses have demonstrated that today marks a victory for gun sense shoppers as dozens of businesses, including thousands of their locations across the state, are prohibiting open carry on their premises,” Anna Kehde, a volunteer leader with the Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, says in a press release. “Despite the NRA’s best efforts, and despite burdensome signage requirements for businesses that choose to prohibit open carry, Texas businesses across the state are proving that they continue to prioritize the safety of their customers and employees.”

The group expects the list to grow.
