A Houston man's strange attempted robbery is getting attention after surveillance video was released Wednesday morning.
Police said John Bell walked into a Latino Cellular shop in southwest Houston on April 17 of last year and told the employee to open the register. The woman didn't cooperate, but instead walked out of the store, along with customers and the owner's wife. She then locked the door, making sure Bell stayed inside until police arrived.
But there's more to the failed robbery attempt as we can see in the surveillance video. The video shows the suspect shooting at the door's lock and even trying to ram the door down. He later finds the keys, which don't work since the lock is damaged from the shooting.
His solution? Getting down on his knees and praying. Oh, and apologizing to the employee and owner's wife, both waiting outside.
When police arrived, they had no trouble taking Bell into custody. He pleaded guilty last month and will spend five years in prison, since records state he was already on deferred adjudication from a 2015 aggravated robbery.
With the newly released footage, it looks like he'll be facing public embarrassment too.
