While it may not boast the rich history of the Battle of Flowers Parade (which we highlighted in our seasonal refresher Cascarón Confusion? Your Guide to All Things Fiesta), the Fiesta Flambeau stands out as a San Antonio original that’s billed as “America’s largest illuminated night parade.” With the official parade mascot Torchy and the University of Texas Longhorn Band lighting the way, this year’s Flambeau expects to draw 700,000 Fiesta fans into the streets of downtown (not to mention 1.5 million television viewers) for a lively procession featuring elaborately decorated floats, marching bands and equestrian units. Adopting a theme of “City Lights and Celebrations,” the 2017 edition honors grand marshals Guillermo Rodriguez (from Jimmy Kimmel Live!) and former Spur Keith Edmondson. $16.50-$30, 7:30pm Sat, Apr. 29, (210) 364-5349, visit fiestaflambeauparade.org for the parade route.
