In a move it’s safe to say playwright/screenwriter/actor Richard O’Brien approves of, the Woodlawn has tapped RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sharon Needles to slip into the fishnets of Dr. Frank N. Furter. A former member of the Pittsburgh-based troupe The Haus of Haunt, Needles favors a dark dramatic style Lady Gaga has praised via Twitter. Born Aaron Coady in Newton, Iowa, the 30-year-old performer has reportedly been longing to portray the oversexed Transylvanian transvestite since childhood, describing the four-week gig as “a dream come true.” Director Greg Hinojosa puts a “futuristic industrial grunge” spin on the 1973 musical that sparked the midnight movie with the longest-running theatrical release in film history — prop bags and virgin sacrifices included. $35-$50; 7:30pm and 10:45pm Fri, Oct 5; The Woodlawn Theatre, 1920 Fredericksburg, (210) 738-1117, woodlawntheatre.com.
