Since forming in 1994, the family band Los Inocentes has performed at an array of gatherings including the Texas Folklife Festival, New York’s Ethnic Folklife Festival, and Luminaria. Comprised of siblings Binisa, George, and Itza Zentella, the local trio draws from Latin American roots music to create thematic suites such as “Songs of Independence” and “Morning of Truth.” Winners of Univision’s 2005 Premio de Oro, Los Inocentes’ recent album Alabado celebrates the musical heritage of the San Antonio Missions. On Thursday, the group resurrects the tradition of singing aguinaldos, villancicos, and shepherds’ songs — tunes typically sung house-to-house after Christmas Day and before Three Kings Day — in a free program designed to shed light on the origin and style of each piece performed.
