It moved from July to March in 2010, but this year’s Contemporary Art Month gets a head start at the tail end of February. Launched in 1986 to raise the national profile of San Antonio contemporary art and artists, CAM continues to evolve and grow via additions and innovations including the CAM “Perennial” exhibition and CAMx, an annual exhibition-as-exchange between San Antonio and a rotating “sister city.” CAM’s 28th chapter kicks off where it all started with a party featuring live music by Cryin’ D.T. Buffkin and The Bad Breath, the crowning of Miss CAM Antonio, food trucks, beer, wine, margaritas, and opening receptions for a trio of solo exhibitions showcasing some of the city’s finest: photographer Scott Martin, painter Lloyd Walsh, and multimedia artist Gary Sweeney. Free, 6-9pm, Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, 116 Blue Star, (210) 227-6960, bluestarart.org. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here: calendar.sacurrent.com.
