Originated in Madison, Wisconsin in 2010, Listen to Your Mother takes the audience on “a well-crafted 90-minute journey of diverse true stories about motherhood — being a mom, having a mom, losing a mom, finding a mom” and more. Each production brings together a collection of local authors for a unique evening of storytelling, akin to a mom-focused edition of The Moth. Since its inception, Listen to Your Mother has popped up in over 50 cities in North America, and this year will feature productions in Boulder, Nashville and St. Louis, to mention a few.
Directed and produced by Jill Robbins, Jennie Badger and Maria Luisa Cesar, San Antonio’s iteration of Listen to your Mother features thirteen authors of diverse backgrounds: Susana Avila Alvarado, Florinda Flores-Brown, Amie Charney, Christie Cuthbert, Emily Collins, Jill Davis, Lorraine Riojas-Huizar, Meredith Kay, Michelle Lugalia-Hollon, Jan Schubert Norris, Janet Oglethorpe, Winter Prosapio and Christine Snowden. If you’re scrambling for a way to commemorate Mother’s Day, the event is conveniently scheduled on the day prior to the holiday, and will certainly impress the mother(s) in your life regardless of how last-second the ticket purchase may have been.
$20, Sat May 11, 2pm, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater, 100 Auditorium Circle, (210) 223-8624, tobincenter.org.
