Dor?ol Distilling went gold with their own brandy Kinsman Apricot Rakia. Texas' first brandy scored 90 points, ranked 'exceptional' and was awarded a gold medal by the Beverage Tasting Institute, which reviews spirits, wines and beers.
Uber and San Antonio Beer Week are teaming up to offer a free ride to and/or from beer week events now through May 18. New and existing members of Uber have two free rides up to $30 during beer week with code "SABEERWEEK14." If your fare exceeds $30, the remainder will be charged to the credit card on file.
Blue Box Bar (312 Pearl) will host a Wednesday night cocktail flight on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. Blue Box is pairing spring cocktails with cured meats, cheeses and melon at their upstairs bar. The prix fixe is $32 per person.
Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine at Dominion ( 22211 IH 10) has opened. This is the third location with a slightly different menu but the same handcrafted margaritas. Patio dining is beneath a large tree and private dining is available.
If you're a little more hungry than that, Chez Vatel Bistro (218 E Olmos) will hold a rose lunch on Saturday, May 24 at 12:30 p.m. The lunch includes amuse bouche, salami gourgères, jambon de parme and melon charentais, rabbit rillettes on a french baguette, goat cheese and fig tart, petite bouillabaisse, poulet basquaise and an arugula salad with manchego cheese with wine pairings. The lunch is $100 per person.
It's the sixth annual RiverTini Pour-off at the Embassy Suites Riverwalk (125 E Houston) on Monday, June 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The annual fundraiser will include 20 of San Antonio's best bars competing to make the best martini in benefit for the San Antonio River Foundation. General admission tickets are $65 per person and $75 at the door. VIP tickets are $100.
