Fleming’s 5-6-7 happy hour

So, yes, the napkin notes area was a little blurry, but here’s the basic skinny: Happy hour at Fleming’s Steakhouse is a deal. The shtick is five for six until seven, translated as five cocktails, five wines, or five apps for six bucks each. The seven part you get. I started with a non-happy cocktail of cucumber-infused vodka, muddled cucumber, and white cranberry juice (good but a little sweet for me), and quickly moved on to the classic happy-hour vodka martini with seared tuna served with a mustard sauce and a terrific “slaw” of carrot with preserved ginger and black sesame seeds. The tuna had a good, smoky-grilled taste and, like the martini with a lemon twist and olives, was generously served. The martini was indeed classic (though gin is the standard, in my opinion), and a good pair with the rare tuna. You want to substitute gin (for the vodka, not the tuna)? Noah will take care of you; Hendrick’s is a possibility. So is a hamburger and a plate of ravioli. Dinner is served.
