Pinterest, the website where people post pictures of things, namely recipes and crafts, has gone and done everyone a solid by helping Pinners get ready for summer.

The social media outlet has created a board called "United States of Barbecue," which uses location data to pinpoint (get it?) every state's most pinned barbecue recipe. Some of the recipes aren't even barbecue, or grilling even. But we won't argue semantics. We'll just marvel at all the geographic foodie oddities.

Alabama and South Dakota, two states that are not next to each other no matter how many maps you look at, are both partial to BBQ ranch chicken casserole. California, Alaska and Oregon, but not Washington for some reason, like Cha Siu Bao, or Chinese BBQ pork buns, to use the English parlance. Washington D.C. and Maryland decided to forego grilled meat all together. The favorite barbecue recipe of our nation's capital and one of its neighboring states is BBQ cauliflower salad, which, geez, grill some meat already. (That being said, grilled cauliflower is amazing and you should eat it every day.)

So what about Texas? Is there some secret brisket recipe that is making the Pinterest rounds? Well, no, actually. Lone Star pinners are apparently obsessed with kebabs of all things. The most popular barbecue recipe pinned in Texas — as well as Oklahoma and Florida — is for the best BBQ chicken kebabs, a recipe found on the site Fabulously Frugal

Why exactly is a state built on beef going pin-crazy for a barbecue chicken recipe? Who knows? Maybe we're just watching our waistlines or our pocketbooks.

So now you know. Get to barbecuing, and if you make that BBQ ranch chicken casserole, please be so kind as to drop some by the San Antonio Current offices.
