Let's Take a Moment and Reflect on Molly White's (Thankfully) Short Term in the Legislature

One of the Texas Tea Party's favorite circus performers has lost her bid for re-election.

Muslims, women and LGBT communities all across the state should breathe a huge sigh of momentary relief. At least one Texas hate-monger won't be returning to the capital. 

Former Rep. Molly White narrowly lost her primary race to Republican Hugh Shine, a former state representative, the Austin American-Statesman reports

White made waves during her short tenure that reverberated on a national scale for all the wrong reasons.

There was that time she demanded loyalty pledges from Lone Star State Muslims during a day at the capital in Austin that honored adherents of the faith.

Then there was that time she thought she could pass a law that would undermine the Supreme Court of the United States.

The proposed legislation said the Texas Constitution, which was amended to ban same-sex marriage, will "apply regardless of whether a federal court ruling or other federal law provides that a prohibition against the creation or recognition of a same-sex marriage or a civil union is not permitted under the United States Constitution."

In 2015, Texas Monthly named White one of the 10 worst lawmakers in the state.
