A San Antonio Police Department officer on Thursday morning shot a man suspected of randomly firing shots on the South Side, authorities said.

The shooting took place just before 9 a.m. on Pleasanton Road near Adams Elementary School and Harlandale High School. According to reports, police said the suspect shot a bicyclist, who ducked behind a bus, before firing more shots while going down a few blocks. The bus driver said he heard at least eight rounds.

When police arrived on the scene, officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect before shooting him at least once.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, but his condition isn't known at this time. Officials said the bicyclist and people on the bus were not hurt, though an officer was hit in the face with broken glass.

Police said the shooting is under investigation to determine a motive.
