Soon-to-be-moms take note, San Antonio Metro Health is hosting a "Mega Baby Shower."

Healthy Start, a Metro Health program, aims to connect pregnant women with community resources and prenatal care on January 29 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Frank Garrett Community Center (1226 NW 19th St.) on the near west side.

“Baby showers are traditionally a way to celebrate the mom-to-be and baby. But we also want to take this opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of prenatal care,” Kori Eberle, Healthy Start program manager, says in a press release. “Gifts are wonderful. But the best gift a baby can receive is early and consistent prenatal care to ensure baby and mom’s health throughout the pregnancy and beyond birth.”

The shower will include representatives from WIC, Baby Café, Metro Health’s Immunizations clinic, SA Public Library, Aetna, CommuniCare, Metro Health STD/HIV Clinic and Avance. There will also be a light lunch followed by games, drawings and door prizes.

Expecting moms who want to attend can register by calling or texting their name and number of guests to (210) 718-2687. Children are welcome.

Healthy Start will host the showers all year and in other areas of San Antonio. The mission is to "strengthen families, empower neighborhoods, and improve health and community services so that all babies have an equal chance to live and thrive."
