San Antonio Artist Announced State Poet Laureate

Today the Texas State Legislature announced the appointments to the positions of state poet laureate, state musician, state two-dimensional artist and state three-dimensional artist.

Most notably, Carmen Tafolla, 2012 Poet Laureate of San Antonio, and professor of bicultural and bilingual studies at UTSA, was announced Texas Poet Laureate of 2015

Laurie Ann Guererro, the current poet laureate of San Antonio will follow Tafolla as the 2016 state poet laureate. Vincent Valdez, who also resides here in San Anto, was appointed Texas State Two-Dimensional Artist. The legislature appoints four artists a year for a one year term due to the exceptional quality of their work and for their outstanding commitment to the arts in Texas. Of the four artists announced for 2015, two of them are San Antonians. Meaning San Antonio represents 50 percent of our State-Artists. Take that, Austin.
