'Austin City Limits' Season 39 Premieres Saturday with Juanes

Photo by Scott NewtonAustin City Limits, the longest-running music series in television, not to be confused with the festival going on this weekend and next, is back for it’s 39th season this Saturday. Kicking off the premiere with some Latin flare will be superstar Juanes and up-and-comers Jesse y Joy. As expected, ACL does an exceptional job of bringing great musical talent from all genres of music to the forefront for audiences across the country and even around the world. The show’s bare-bones approach and focus on the music has earned the venerable music institution multiple honors including the National Medal of Arts Award (2003) and has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the 10 most influential music programs of all time. ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona says of the new season, “Every year Austin City Limits makes history, and this year is no exception—launching the new season with two of Latin music’s biggest superstars. We’re also proud to continue the tradition of showcasing some of music’s most amazing new talent, and as usual our music mix offers a little something for everybody’s taste!” Making the show’s lineup this season are familiar names Vampire Weekend, Jim James, Phoenix, and The Lumineers. Shovels & Rope and Austin locals The Black Angels will be making their ACL debut along side British breakthroughs Emeli Sandé and Michael Kiwanuka. On Nov. 2nd you won’t want to miss ACL veterans Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell taking the stage together for the first time on the show.
