In a recent interview with Texas Standard, Honky-tonk revivalist Dale Watson said he believes our sister to the north, Austin – his home – is becoming uninhabitable for musicians.
“I just really feel the city has sold itself… This city was never about money. It was about quality of life.” And honestly, that’s what his music’s about: living life.
With straight-forward guitar chord progressions and vocal melodies as per most Honky-tonk music, and with lyrics like “I like to drink Lone Star / I like to smoke pot / it makes us happy / we do it a lot,” what’s not to love?
