Since Bombasta specializes in creating stylistic, rhythmic, and cultural collisions, it’s not a huge surprise that the Latin-funk band is taking its beat-crazy synthesis to one of SA’s foremost jazz venues, Luna Fine Music Club. The group’s debut Luna gig on Saturday, January 20 will also serve as a birthday bash for Bombasta’s creative visionary Roberto Livar, known to Bombasta nation as El Robotico 2012.
The Luna show will include a set by Azul and her backing band, and guest appearances by a variety of friends. The musical proceedings commence at 9&NBSPp.m.
NEXT OF KEN
Ken Slavin’s eight-month residency at the Fairmount Hotel’s Sage lounge has come to an end. On Friday, January 12, the crowd-pleasing jazz crooner was informed by the lounge’s management that his gig would be terminated due to a lack of business. Slavin’s brief stint at Sage marked a return to the Fairmount, where he had built a loyal following years earlier.
Slavin is looking for a new weekend gig, but in the meantime he can be seen and heard (with his stellar trio) at Chango’s Havana Club (23535 IH-10 West) every other Tuesday. His next appearance at Chango’s will be January 30.
Slavin is also readying a new album for an early-2007 release. The collection, entitled I’ll Take Romance, is being produced by Barry Brake of the Jazz Protagonists.
