The Sound & The Fury

On Saturday, April 3, two worthwhile causes will compete for your cash. Rockin’ for a Remedy, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Zombies (12285 Nacogdoches, (210) 590-7757), features Lokey, Destruction Evolution, and Impulse to Devour, and the proceeds ($5 admission, $7 if you’re under 21) will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (leukemia.org). The 3rd Annual PEACE Initiative benefit at Nightrocker Live (605 San Pedro, (210) 265-3573, however, featuring Las Krudas, Los Nahuatlatos, and Vocab, will, oddly enough benefit the PEACE Initiative (peaceinitiativesatx.org) a nonprofit seeking an end to domestic violence. $5 gets you in here too, and any extra donation will get you a slice of cake. It’s Carla Gomez’s birthday, after all. Why not be a big shot and drop a Lincoln at both? While you’re out, you might also check out Kin of Cain (featuring Current readers’ pick for Best Singer-Songwriter James Cox), who’ll be celebrating a CD release at Bond’s 007 Rock Bar (450 Soledad, (210) 225-0007) along with Ill Prospekt and Deadpool. Admission to that one is $5 as well. Once you’ve run out of fivers, you can go to the no-cover Official First Saturday celebration at Rebar (8134 Broadway, (210) 320-4091), featuring You’re Done For, June’s Not Faking, and Survive Tomorrow, plus a local art showcase and an open drum-circle jam session on the patio. Sounds like a good night. — Jeremy Martin
