Does cover art matter anymore? Back in the days of actual CD purchases, and being like Jay – “You just ripped the packaging off your CD, if you like me you reading the credits right now" – cover art told a story. It gave a quick look into the thought process of the music, a visual aid, if you will.
Things have changed a bit, due to the emergence of streaming services, physical CDs are, basically, a thing of the past. The stream game is so strong, Soundscan was forced to take notice and adjust the numbers to accurately gauge the listening percentages and equate those digits to chart success.
All things considered, some artists still take cover art very seriously. A few even go to great heights, hence the newest effort from everyone's favorite Canadian rapper/pop sensation, Drake.
October’s Very Own recently released the artwork to the now-titled Views, sitting on the CN Tower in his hometown Toronto, the 6. I mean, hey, what other view should the 6 God have?
And if chill was the equivalent to millions, then it’s a given most of us don't have any … the socials went crazy with memes.
From Birdman to Beyoncé to Crying Jordan, all sitting alongside Aubrey to bask in the magnificent view.
As for the content, we’ll have to see if the the music measures up to the hype of the artwork. Drake’s forthcoming album is scheduled to drop this Friday.
