Haling from Miami, Florida, Pouya, born Kevin Pouya, began his rap career in 2011. However, it wasn’t until 2016 did he started gaining traction releasing his debut studio album Underground Underdog, which peaked at No. 156 on the Billboard 200.

Part Iranian and part Cuban, the biracial rapper’s style is likened to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and ASAP Rocky, flowing with a rapid cadence over dark, psychedelic beats. While his influences definitely shine through in his music, Pouya still manages to retain his own sense of identity, especially in his lyrics which address issues like living with anxiety.

The rapper is headed to San Antonio for a show at the Aztec Theatre on Thursday, August 1.

Tickets ($25) are on sale now and can be purchased at theaztectheatre.com.
