You know, band names are a finicky thing. Some take them too seriously, and some not seriously enough. Some names seem perfect for a band’s sound, and some, whether intentional or not, seem ill-fitted.
Thunder Horse, a newish S.A. doom metal outfit, is an example of a band name that perfectly matches the sound. Replete with sludgy breakdowns; wicked shreddage; plodding, daze-inducing rhythms and dark, gory lyrics, Thunder Horse does call to mind images of a majestic and wild animal facing some roaring cataclysm that approaches out of the black sky.
As far as new and local metal, you’d be hard-pressed to find a tighter, more inventive act than this. If we know our readers like we think we do, then we figure you’ll probably be just excited as us to catch the band in action. To whet your appetite, check out the debut album (for which the band is releasing a vinyl edition at the show) over at
