BettySoo_Shoot_July2012_043e-1024x680

A Hill Country tradition since 1972, the Kerrville Folk Festival showcases upwards of 100 established and emerging singer-songwriters (representing genres from traditional folk to bluegrass, country, rock, blues, jazz, and Americana) on the grounds of the 50-acre Quiet Valley Ranch. Scattered among the daily lineups are 32 promising artists selected from a pool of 700 as this year’s “Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Finalists.” Much more than just 18 days of music under the big Texas sky, the family-friendly event offers workshops, camping, canoe trips, song circles, bike rides, arts and crafts vendors, yoga classes, and a Kids-Ville activity center where the young and young at heart can “learn, play, and sing.” Monday's featured performers include Robby Hecht, (Nashville, TN), The Sea The Sea (New Haven, CT), Alicia McGovern (Salt Lake City, UT), and Austin's Betty Soo (pictured). $25-$40, 8am-11pm Monday, Quiet Valley Ranch, 3876 Medina Hwy, Kerrville, (830) 257-3600, kerrville-music.com.
