Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Geto Boys

Geto Boys

Geto Boys — Houston gangsta rap trio and precursors to the dirty south sound — have been an important force in the rap world since their classic 1989 album Grip It! On That Other Level. Though they haven’t released any new material since 2005’s The Foundation, the trio of Scarface, Bushwick Bill, and Willie D are pioneers, whose work is hallmarked by a potent combination of sparse and gritty beats, traditional hip-hop wordplay, gangsta-rap gruesomeness, and socially conscious commentary. While we’ll all be hoping to hear the anthemic “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” on Sunday night, it’s a treat in general to experience the controversial, cutting edge hip-hop catalog that helped loosen America’s uneasiness with the genre’s often graphic content. $25-$28, 7pm, The Korova, 107 E Martin, (210) 995-7229, ticketfly.com.
